In 2011, the FCDD received an “American Masterpieces” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to restage Merce Cunningham’s renowned choreographic collage, MinEVENT, on two casts of five college dancers. The work was restaged by long-time company member and current Juilliard faculty member, Banu Ogun. This project was especially timely, as it coincided with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company’s final international Legacy Tour. Performances by the two different casts took place at a variety of venues throughout fall 2011, including site performances in the lobby of the new engineering building at Smith College and in the gallery space of the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College. The project also included original collaborations with five college costume, set, video and sound design artists.
