Takashi Murakami: Lineage of Eccentrics. A Collaboration with Nobuo Tsuji and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

This program is suitable for K-12 teachers of all subjects and grade levels. The primary focus of the workshop will be links between traditional and contemporary Japanese art and culture (including manga and anime) and kawaii culture. We will also address other topics such as expressions of diversity and the place of play in Japanese culture.

Museum admission covered. Update: Lunch will be provided! Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Boston. Complete all of the workshop requirements (see below for details) and receive reimbursement for parking.

Program requirements

• In advance of the Jan. 20 workshop at the MFA, read several (3-5) articles on topics related to Japanese art and this exhibit, and view the online guided tour ( (You will be able to access the guided tour from your smartphone at the MFA, but please also view it in advance.) The readings will be e-mailed to you no later than January 8. If you register after that date, we will e-mail the readings to you as soon as possible.

• Attend the Jan. 20 workshop at the MFA.

• After the workshop, and no later than 9am EST Monday, Jan. 29, post one classroom implementation idea on the workshop Moodle site.

• Respond to at least one classroom implementation idea (how you might use it in your classroom, additional resources, etc.) no later than 10pm EST Friday, Feb. 2 on the workshop Moodle site.

After completion of the above, receive parking reimbursement (maximum $30) AND a certificate of completion for 6 contact hours of professional development. You must submit a completed W9 form in order to receive the reimbursement.
