Summer Session 1: May 27 - July 2, 2014


Elementary Persian I

This intensive course in elementary Persian covers all four primary language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will learn to read and write the Persian script, develop speaking skills in everyday conversational Persian, begin reading simple Persian texts, and learn to write simple notes, paragraphs and dialogs. Emphasis will be placed on learning to use the language in culturally appropriate ways and in learning the differences between colloquial spoken Persian and more formal written Persian.

Persian for Persian Speakers I

Class Meeting Times:  Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:30 - 4:30 pm

Tuition: $1200
This entry-level course is for students who speak Persian at an intermediate or advanced level, but do not read and write in the language. Students will learn to read and write the Persian script, begin reading simple Persian texts, and learn to write short compositions in Persian.  Emphasis will be placed on learning the differences between colloquial spoken Persian and more formal written Persian. Attention will also be given to developing more complex and formal spoken language skills. Prerequisite: Speaking knowledge of Persian at the intermediate level or above.

Elementary Persian II

This course continues the elementary sequence began in Elementary Persian I.  The course covers all four primary language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will develop conversational skills in spoken Persian, while also developing formal reading and writing skills. Students will be introduced to aspects of Persian culture and discuss the use of language in culturally appropriate ways. Prerequisite: Elementary Persian I or the equivalent.

Persian for Persian Speakers II

This course follows Persian for Persian Speakers I. The Level II course presupposes a reading knowledge of  Persian script , intermediate to advanced speaking skills, and knowledge of the basic fundamentals of Persian grammar and composition covered in Persian for Persian Speakers I.  Students will read, discuss, and write about short texts in Persian; study finer points of formal Persian grammar and work on developing a wider range of formal vocabulary. Prerequisite: Persian for Persian Speakers I or the equivalent.
