Elementaryspanish I

Spanish I is an intensive introduction to Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. This course is recommended for second language learners without previous training in Spanish, or two years or less of high school Spanish. Spanish I gives the student a basic understanding of the language and its use in context. Grammar is used as a point of departure for development of oral and writing skills. After a satisfactory completion of this course the student is able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, daily living interactions – at classrooms, shopping stores, or restaurants-, and other topics such as: sports, professions, geography, among others). The student is capable of communicating or talking about routine tasks which require a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters, and which describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters of immediate need.

Elementary spanish II

Spanish II continues expanding learner’s basic knowledge of Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. This course is recommended for second language learners with basic understanding of Spanish or with less than two years of high school Spanish. Spanish II gives the student a basic understanding of the language and its use. Grammar is used as a point of departure for development of oral and writing skills. After a satisfactory completion of this course the student is able to communicate and express ideas, questions, and personal thoughts. Various aspects of the Hispanic culture are covered; from differences amongst Hispanic populations to aspects of their daily living activities, politics, liberal arts, traditions, and others. The student is capable of communicating or discussing main ideas of short stories, articles and movies (orally and in writing). In this level, a lot of emphasis is placed on oral, reading, and writing skills. Prerequisite: Elementary Spanish I or the equivalent.
