Program Coordinator Bea Cusin at bcusin@fivecolleges.edu

Job Description:
The Director of the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center is responsible for overseeing the programs and outreach activities of the Center, including public events; hosting of visiting scholars; developing and supporting intellectual communities for faculty members and visitors in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS); and building, maintaining and strengthening contacts and coordination with the WGSS programs at the five campuses. The Director works collaboratively with advice from members of the Center’s Steering Committee. The Director supervises and directs the work of the Center’s Program Coordinator who is a full-time employee of the Five College Consortium, and they work together to manage the Center’s programs, events, budgets, and publicity. The Director acts as a liaison to Five Colleges, Inc., and to the Chairs of the WGSS departments at each of the five institutions. The Director provides an annual report on the activities of the Center and a reflective self-assessment to be shared with the Center’s Steering Committee, the Five College Consortium’s Executive Director and the Five College Deans.

The Director is expected to devote to these administrative duties the time reassigned from teaching one course each semester. The Director is expected to spend a substantial amount of this reassigned time at the facilities of the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center located on the campus of Mount Holyoke College.

Please note: While the FCWSRC operating budget is expected to return to normal in AY 2021-2022, given budget negotiations on individual campuses we must mention the possibility that the Director and Program Coordinator positions will function differently next year. In the event that staffing isn’t restored to pre-pandemic levels yet, the Director will receive only one course release and the Program Coordinator will work four hours per week. As a result, they would focus their energies on running the Research Associate’s program as they have this academic year.

The Director is appointed and supervised by the Executive Director of Five Colleges, Incorporated on the advice and recommendation of the Five College Deans.

Required Qualifications:

  • Tenured faculty member (or an equivalently long-term ten-year appointment at Hampshire College) or Senior Lecturer at one of the five campuses

  • Availability to serve for at least one year beginning July 1, 2021 until June 30, 2022

  • Scholarly expertise in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

  • Commitment to fostering scholarship and collaboration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous administrative experience

  • Previous fundraising experience
