Join us for a screening of a 20-minute documentary created by students in SPAN 345: Puerto Rico Diaspora Nation, followed by a Q&A with the creators. The documentary is based on interviews of Puerto Ricans who live in the Pioneer Valley (Amherst, Holyoke, Chicopee and Westfield), as well as their relatives on the island. Topics include diasporic family life, Hurricane Maria and its aftermath, the politics of colonialism, and what it means to be Puerto Rican today. In English and Spanish with subtitles. Made possible with funds from Amherst College Dean's Office and the Five College Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies Program.
