Jane Costello currently works as a teacher of English Language Learners at Fort River Elementary School in Amherst MA. She has taught at both elementary and secondary levels in the Amherst School system and she has led ELL teacher training workshops in the Boston area. Early in her career, Jane taught in rural West Africa and in the urban Boston area. Teaching literacy to people from a variety of cultural backgrounds has always been at the core of her work.
Jane received her BS from Wheelock college and her MA from UMass. Recently she completed a certification program in Orton-Gillingham, a specialized approach to teaching literacy for people with dyslexia. Jane loves to see the joy and the feelings of empowerment that literacy learning brings to her students.
Her interests beyond school include gardening, the arts, yoga, travel, sustainable living and facilitating Alternatives to Violence workshops in a prison.
