Five College Partnership Programs

A Glance at Past Programs

From 2002-2013, the Partnership collaborated with the Springfield Public Schools to offer Teaching American History to Springfield social studies teachers. Teachers became historians by studying critical moments and themes in American history with Five College faculty scholars and museum researchers. They developed their classroom instructional practices by working with history content coaches to use their deepened content knowledge to improve their students’ achievement in American history.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Teacher Education Collaborative (STEMTEC) was a five-year, $5,000,000 project funded by the National Science Foundation in 1998. Managed by the STEM Education Institute at UMass and the Five Colleges School Partnership Program, the collaborative included the Five Colleges--Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, and UMass Amherst--plus Greenfield, Holyoke, and Springfield Technical Community Colleges, and several regional school districts.
