Overview of the CORI Process

To complete your CORI, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the appropriate CORI authorization form.
  2. To send your CORI Authorization form to Smith for processing, you may either:
    1. Encrypt a scanned PDF of your notarized Authorization Form and a legible copy of your government issued ID. Send two emails to the email address affiliated with the form below - one with the encrypted file and one with the password. Include what times you would be available for a remote identity verification appointment in the body of the email.
      1. To encrypt a PDF on a PC 
      2. To encrypt a PDF on a Mac  
    2. Mail the notarized Authorization Form to the address affiliated with the form below. Note that mailing the forms can add up to three weeks to the processing period, and you will not be able to participate in programs during that time.
  3. Once your CORI Authorization Form has been recieved, you will recieve an email to schedule an appointment. You must make a zoom appointment to confirm your identity and verify your consent to have a background check run on you.
  4. At this point the procedures diverge for Students and Employees:
    1. For students and volunteers, the process is complete at this point. Student affairs will submit your application to iCORI.
    2. For employees, once your appointment with Human Resources is completed, you will receive an email from HireRight with a link. Your access will expire, so try to follow the enclosed link and complete your online application within five days of receiving the email. You may need to check your spam folder.

Within 30 days of submitting your CORI application, a consumer reporting agency will check your record. If you are approved, your Minor Safety Certification will be valid for three years
