Art & the History of Art 262 - Watering Time: Intermediate Photography
M/W | 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
This intermediate studio course explores creative photographic practice through ideas of movement, fluidity, and transformation. Rather than treating the photograph as a static record, we will explore their dynamic potential as images that circulate, translate, and cross disciplines. Projects will move between digital and analog processes, including creating digital negatives for darkroom experimentation, performance for the camera, installation strategies, zine-making, and digital dissemination. The first half of the semester introduces structured assignments; in the second half, students will develop an independent project in dialogue with regular critiques. Together, we will critically think through photography’s unique relationship to time, and reframe the photograph from a fixed “captured moment” toward an unfixed, relational practice—attuned to its capacity to move, seep, and connect across material, temporal, and disciplinary boundaries. Prerequisites include any introduction to photography course (either analog or digital).
