This course explores how people come to understand others, navigate relationships, and make sense of the social world. We will explore the multifaceted and intersectional nature of social cognition including topics such as theory of mind, empathy, prosocial behavior, and the influence of culture and context. Topics will be discussed in relation to their development from infancy through late adulthood. We will engage classic and contemporary theory and research in the field with a focus on research design, theoretical debates, and application to real-world contexts such as education, parenting, relationships, and policy.
