What does it mean to be a successful child or have a successful childhood in modern society today? This interdisciplinary course helps students develop a theoretically, historically and culturally informed perspective on childhood and child development and use this knowledge to think about and address the dilemmas that confront children and families in modern societies. Students examine how the experience of childhood is shaped by the interplay of family, schooling and wider culture by drawing on directed field observations and experiences. Prerequisite: 235 or permission of the instructor.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
