Topics course.: Through a series of team-taught interdisciplinary lectures, we will endeavor to understand the cultural, economic, social, and political factors involved in the making of the Trump presidency. Topics include: the rise of modern conservatism; democracy and “gridlock”; identity politics; healthcare and reproductive rights; neoliberalism and debt; civil rights backlash and racial scapegoating; media-made politics and fake news; data mining and the perils of polls; and the politics of education.
