This seminar course will examine the record of life with an approach from a geobiological perspective. We will examine the interactions between life and the environment from the early Earth through to the Modern. We will explore microbial metabolisms, isotopic systems, and their interrelated nature from the Proterozoic to the Recent. We will read recent peer-reviewed papers from the literature to inform our class discussions, and students will present material in class. Enrollment limited to 15. Prerequisites: GEO 221 or 231. BIO majors could be admitted by permission of instructor.
