With transcription lab. The sound system of English and, to a lesser extent, those of other languages. Phonemes, allophones, phonological rules, and historical changes in the English language. Phonetic universals in comparison to English phonetics. Reading and writing English words and sentences using the International Phonetic Alphabet, including special symbols used for coarticulation, dialects, disorders, and infant vocalizations. Prerequisites: COMM-DIS 211, PHYSICS 114 recommended. (Planned for Spring) (Dr. Velleman)
Multiple required components--lab and/or discussion section. To register, submit requests for all components simultaneously.
