The seminar provides an intensive investigation of art museum history, missions, practices, and current issues. Topics include: the ideology and practice of exhibitions from initial concept through installation; components that influence meaning and interpretation of displays of art; the challenges of controversial subject matter and censorship; developing diverse audiences for the 21st century; and, the theories, practices, and ethics of assembling museum collections. The course integrates student reflections on skills and knowledge gained from General Education courses and Art History coursework (from the General Education introductory level to upper-division courses) and application of knowledge, critical analysis, research, and creative thinking skills to the contemporary museum and public art exhibition environment.
The course fulfills the General Education Integrative Experience requirement for Art History majors.
Open to Art History majors only. PreReq: ART-HIST 370 Integrative Experience: Museum Studies

Open to Junior Art History majors only or by permission of instructor.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
