The Commonwealth Honors College thesis or project is intended to provide students with the opportunity to work closely with faculty members to define and carry out in-depth research or creative endeavors. It provides excellent preparation for students who intend to continue their education through graduate study or begin their professional careers. The student works closely with their 499Y Honors Research sponsor to pursue research on a topic or question of special interest to them in preparation for writing a 499T Honors Thesis or completing a 499P Honors Project.
Students must apply through CHC PATHS to add this course Students wishing to register for Honors Research to prepare for the completion of an Honors Thesis (499T) or an Honors Project (499P) must complete a contract proposal with their faculty chair using CHC PATHS (honors.umass.edu/chc-paths/) for online approval by their chair and other reviewers, including the Academic Standards Committee of the Faculty Senate's Commonwealth Honors College Council. Once fully approved it will be registered in SPIRE by Commonwealth Honors College. APPLICATION CAN BE DONE DURING PRE-REG AND SHOULD BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BEFORE CLASSES START TO ENSURE THAT REGISTRATION CAN BE COMPLETED BEFORE ADD/DROP ENDS.
