This short course provides an introduction to basic principles and practices of computer and network security. Topics include ethics, primary definitions, applied cryptography, networking, operating systems, malware, and incident handling. The course is flipped: students complete readings and assignments ahead of each class, and class time is used to discuss this work. Class discussion includes current events related to security as well. Attendance is mandatory.
Open to freshmen & sophomore Computer Science students. COURSE RUNS FOR 6 WEEKS (3/20/17-4/26/17: 3/20, 3/22, 3/27, 3/29, 4/3, 4/5, 4/10, 4/12, 4/17-NO CLASS, 4/18, 4/19, 4/24, 4/26). STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN COMPSCI 460 ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS COURSE. REGISTRATION ONLY BEFORE ADD/DROP ENDS, THROUGH 2/6. INSTRUCTOR CONSENT REQUIRED TO WITHDRAW.
