This course surveys the broad field of marine science, which includes the sub-disciplines of oceanography and marine biology. It's intended to provide incoming students (first-year students) with an introductory survey and overview of the many facets of the marine sciences, including basic (simplified) physics, biology, chemistry and geology of the oceans and their diverse marine environments and marine life forms. We will stress the interconnections among aspects of oceanography, marine biology and ecology, living marine resources, and human interactions with the marine environment. There are no prerequisites, although it is assumed that all students will have had the normal high school math and science background required for admission to the university.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
