This seminar reviews domain literature concerning best practices in diversity, inclusion, and pedagogy, while connecting these topics to the engineering classroom, research and workplace environments. Starting with core literature and examples from engineering, other technical/scientific fields, and education, participants will engage in critical discussion about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) STEM identity, hidden curriculum and unspoken culture, institutional inclusivity (or lack of), inclusive design and socially engaged engineering, and what it means to be a 21st Century Leader. Through conversations, reflections, and participatory actions, this course will explore historical and current issues with the intention of creating an equitable landscape moving forward. Audit and/or non-credit participants are welcome through instructor permission.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
