The course will contribute to the overall goal of making research in computing more accessible to students from historically underrepresented groups in computer science. To that end, the workshop topics will include a combination of practical, social, and research-related topics. Examples of those topics include cultivating curiosity, building confidence and combatting imposter syndrome, summarizing findings, visualizing data, forming hypotheses, applications in computing, and developing collaboration strategies. These topics will dovetail with the more intensive four-week mini-research module offered by the various participating computing research labs and their faculty leads. This class is part of the EMBER (Energizing Mentoring and Broadening Exposure to Research) project in CICS.
Open to COMPSCI or INFORM students only. COMPSCI 186 or 187 w/ C INSTRUCTOR CONSENT REQUIRED. OPEN TO MHC STUDENTS. THIS COURSE WILL MEET ONCE A WEEK FOR ONE HOUR, AND EACH HOUR WILL HAVE ONE WORKSHOP TOPIC.
