Mathematical and algorithmic foundations of big data processing. Study of methods for sampling, sketching, and distributed processing of large scale databases, graphs, and data streams for purposes of scalable statistical description, querying, pattern mining, and learning.
Open to junior and senior Computer Science majors who completed COMPSCI 240 and 311 with a grade of B+ or better. LECT 01 FOR UNDERGRADS; LECT 02 FOR GRADS. SEATS HELD IN LECT 02 FOR INCOMING GRAD STUDENT REGISTRATION. INSTRUCTOR WILL CONSIDER STAT515 AS AN ALTERNATE PREREQUISITE IN PLACE OF COMPSCI 240 VIA OVERRIDE.
