Introductory vocabulary and definitions, descriptions of the dynamics of oppression at the individual, institutional, and cultural levels. Focus on developing personal awareness of social group memberships in relationship to two specific forms of oppression. Introduction to selected literature on two specific forms of oppression.
Open to Graduate students only. Open to Graduate students only. Class meets on Friday, September 16th and Friday December 9th, both days 9am-5pm. In addition students will choose two weekend seminars out of four to attend.

Weekend One (Youth Oppression): Saturday, October 1 & Sunday, October 2; 9am-5pm
Weekend Two (Racism): Saturday, October 22 & Sunday, October 23; 9am-5pm
Weekend Three (Tentative: Gender Oppression): Saturday, November 5 & Sunday November 6; 9am-5pm
Weekend Four (Tentative: Classism or Ableism): Saturday, November 19 & Sunday November 20; 9am-5pm
Foundations Core requirement for 1st year SJE doctoral and master students.
