Psychological & Brain Sciences 391PB - S- Clinical Child Psychology

This course offers an introduction to the field of clinical child psychology. We will review contemporary approaches to understanding the clinical features, diagnosis, causes, developmental course, prevention, and treatment of major psychological disorders in childhood and adolescence. Core emphases include: 1) Learning how common psychological disorders that affect children and adolescents are expressed, the criteria that are used to diagnose disorders, and strengths and limitations of existing diagnostic systems; 2) Gaining an understanding of theories of the development of child and adolescent psychopathology; 3) Learning about common methods for treating different forms of child and adolescent psychopathology; 4) Exploring how sociocultural factors play a role in the development, diagnosis, and treatment of child & adolescent psychopathology; and 5) Learning to apply your understanding of the diagnosis, causes, and treatment of child and adolescent psychopathology to case studies.

Senior Psychology Majors only. Pre Req: PSYCH 241 Psych 380 is a recommended pre-requisite.
