This seminar is a required course for Commonwealth Honors College students where students participate in a topical seminar-style course designed by its instructor. While the subject matter of each section is different, advanced knowledge of the topic is not required. While the subject matter of each section is different, the requirements for each section are the same. Individual titles and descriptions of HONORS 391AH sections can be found on the Commonwealth Honors College website.

Open to Senior, Junior, and Sophomore Commonwealth College students only. Art Practice Research

How do we translate ideas into visual forms? How do we transform qualitative or quantitative data into visual stories? What can we take from creative practices and processes? How can we get into the flow of artistic exploration and inquiries while conducting research? How can we turn creative constraints into inspiring tools?
This course will explore Artistic Research and Arts-based Research methodologies, including drawing, collage, sound, digital and mixed media. We will focus on experimenting with various artistic processes, data presentation & visualization, data analysis, and presentation through different ways of seeing, thinking, and making. The course will offer creative tools and practical arts-based methods to help with students' projects or thesis. The course will comprise slide lectures, discussions, interactive group activities, hands-on workshops, and virtual gallery/museum tours.

No prior art experience is required.
