Honors College 391AH - Honors Discovery Seminars
W 2:30PM 3:20PM
Open to Senior, Junior, and Sophomore Commonwealth College students only. Conversational, Emotional Intelligence, and Academic Success
Learning to adapt in an ever-changing world environment is a competency that will be required of all students in their lives, in their academic success, and in the careers. This has been highlighted with urgency during this pandemic academic year. The University environment presents the ideal climate in which to optimize the emotional management that strengthens multiple learning experiences. Lived Experiences are necessary to understand the use of Emotional Intelligence in everything we do.
In this 1 credit seminar, students will begin the process of teaching and learning together while they engage in critical analysis of the role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in contributing to their overall success. Some goals include understanding (1) basic successful strategies in order to enjoy a comprehensive education and (2) that they have the potential to be invaluable contributors to their communities and to the world. Conversations will begin in class with opportunities to continue discussions and conversations informally over tea, dinner, and small group projects with other students in their residence halls. Students will also have the opportunity to be engaged with each other in developing a beginning research annotated bibliography and/or developing some qualitative research questions about EI and how it is being used in various organizations and institutions.
