Honors Thesis expectations are high. The intended end-product is a traditional research manuscript with accompanying artifact(s), all theses: - are 6 credits or more of sustained research on a single topic, typically conducted over two semesters. - begin with creative inquiry and systematic research. - include documentation of substantive scholarly endeavor. - culminate in an oral defense or other form of public presentation.

Contact COMCOL (CHC Paths) THE STUDENT DEADLINE TO COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THEIR PART OF AN HONORS 499P APPLICATION USING CHC PATHS IS THE LAST DAY OF CLASSES OF THE FALL SEMESTER. Students wishing to register for the completion of an Honors Thesis (499T) must complete a contract proposal application with their faculty chair using CHC PATHS (honors.umass.edu/chc-paths/) for online approval by their chair and other reviewers, including the Academic Standards Committee of the Faculty Senate's Commonwealth Honors College Council. The application should be done during pre-registration to ensure that the supervising faculty and other reviewers have sufficient time to submit the application to CHC by the first Thursday of the semester for final approval and registration before Add/Drop ends.
(This may be a class eligibility or a pre-requisite. Any UMass student may enroll for an independent honors course but they must meet all honors enrollment and completion requirements for the course.)
