This course will introduce participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, build understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teach individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. This course uses the National Council for Mental Wellbeing curriculum for Mental Health First aid, using role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis, select interventions and provide initial help, and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Students will complete online coursework in addition to meeting in person on ONE DAY from 9:30-3:30, Feb 24, 2024. Priority registration for students in the Developmental Disabilities and Human Services (DDHS) program.
