This course provides a training ground for student Peer Advisors to develop leadership skills and gain valuable insight on the needs and perspectives of PHS students through the following modalities: in-class dialogues and learning activities, assigned readings, and working with groups and individual students in the drop-in peer advising office. Through these actions, peer advisors build the necessary community and leadership skills to support and empower students in their academic and professional pursuits. This course also provides an environment for Peer Advisors to share and discuss their experiences in individual and group advising sessions. Along with working in the peer advising office and presenting group informational sessions to PHS students, advisors choose and collaborate on several Departmental Service Projects that support the Public Health Sciences program.
Students must complete the PUBHLTH 396PA application process to be considered for open Peer Advisor positions.
