This course explores the relationship between physical activity, sedentary behavior, and cognitive functions, brain function and structure across the lifespan. Students will examine foundational and current research in neurocognitive kinesiology and cognitive neuroscience, focusing on how physical activity influences cognitive functions, brain development, and healthy aging. The course integrates critical evaluation of empirical studies, mechanistic insights, and practical applications. Through readings, presentations, and a research proposal project, students develop skills in research critique, scientific communication, and original inquiry into physical activity and brain health.
