Feminist Writing Community

In the spirit of feminist solidarity, accountability, and productivity, the Center hosts a variety of opportunities to write in community, carving out regular space and time to simply do the work.

The Feminist Writing Community supports scholarship across all phases of development through three core components: writing-specific programming, book incubator workshops, and book salons. Our writing-specific programming has weekly, semesterly, and annual elements that include Monday morning Write Together sessions, full-day writing sessions that circulate around the Five Colleges, and larger-scale, multiple-day writing retreats during winter and summer breaks. The Feminist Book Incubator series welcomes scholars to workshop full-length book projects with an interdisciplinary feminist audience. Finally, our book salons celebrate the publication of cutting-edge feminist work.

For all elements of our Feminist Writing Community programming, faculty, staff, graduate students, and community members of all disciplines and genders are welcome to join as regularly or as occasionally suits them. Stay informed about these opportunities and more by registering for teh Feminist Writing Community Mailing List.

Write Togethers

During the academic year, the FCWSRC carves out a block of time each Monday morning dedicated to quiet, focused writing. In-person participants meet at Hampshire College, where we provide coffee and tea; participants can also join remotely over Zoom. The specific building and room is subject to occasionally change—please register for our mailing list to stay up-to-date and to receive the Zoom link for remote participation!

No advanced RSVP required.

9:30am - 10:00am: Doors and Zoom room open; time for coffee and mingling
   10:00am - 12:00pm: Quiet writing time
   12:00pm: Optional check-out time—mingle, share, support...

Pop-Up Write Togethers

The FCWSRC partners with departments and groups across the Five Colleges to host day-long Write Togethers for folks to dive into a longer block of writing, revision, project conceptualization—and to do so in good company. Writers and creatives are invited to bring their own lunch, and we have beverages and snacks on-hand. These events circulate around the consortium and are announced through our mailing list(link is external) and events page.

Writing Retreats

We host two large-scale, multiple-day writing retreats throughout the academic year: one during the first few weeks of June, and one during mid-January that incorporates an array of writing workshops. Writing retreats are also annoounced through our mailing list(link is external) and events page.

The Feminist Book Incubator series welcomes scholars to workshop full-length book projects with an interdisciplinary feminist audience. Information on how to get involved with the series during the 2025-26 academic year is coming soon!

The FCWSRC hosts book salons to celebrate the publication of cutting-edge feminist work within the Five Colleges. We coordinate with authors to identify discussants with whom they would like to be in conversation, and invite community members to join for a conversation about the text.

If you are interested in organizing a book salon at the FCWSRC, please reach out to us at fcwsrc@fivecolleges.edu.
