The Lorna Peterson Prize
Dr. Lorna M. Peterson served as the Executive Director of the Five College Consortium from 1990 to 2009. This prize, established by the Five College Board of Directors and her colleagues and friends throughout the Consortium, honors her commitment to collaboration as a means of advancing understanding and expanding opportunity, especially for students.
The Lorna M. Peterson Prize supports scholarly and creative work by undergraduate students taking part in a Five College program. The $500 prize is awarded annually based on nominations from Five College programs to a student who has demonstrated commitment to collaboration in their academic career.
Eligibility
- Any undergraduate student participating in a Five College program is eligible for nomination.
- The $500 prize can be used to support such activities as scholarly work, performance, research or arts projects, conference attendance or travel related to student work.
- Each Five College program may nominate one student per year.
Nomination Instructions
- Faculty: please complete the Nomination Form. (See below for the form.)
- Students: please submit to your nominating faculty a Student Statement (1–2 pages). The statement should describe the student’s experience in the nominating Five College program and experience collaborating with students and/or faculty members from other campuses (including taking courses on other campuses). The statement should also address the work the prize will support, why the work is interesting and how it connects to the work of the Five College program, and the student’s plans and goals for the future.
- Nominations should be submitted by the nominating faculty member on behalf of a Five College program by email to fcacademics@fivecolleges.edu (subject line: Lorna M. Peterson Prize Committee) by Friday, March 29, 2024. The email should include two PDF attachments (the Nomination Form and the Student Statement.)
