Geology 200H - Geology Field Trip
F | 8:00 AM - 9:50 AM
Students in the course will prepare for and participate in an extended field trip to a region of geological interest. Throughout the semester, students will research the geologic history and processes that characterize the field area. Teams will give weekly presentations on topics selected in consultation with the instructor, drawing on government reports, scientific papers, maps, and field guides. The class will produce a collaborative guidebook to the field area. All students enrolled in the course are required to participate in the field trip. Student groups will serve as peer field instructors at each location visited in the field, based on expertise developed during the semester. One one-hour class meeting per week, plus one extended field trip to Scotland to be scheduled between May 16 and May 24, 2025. In Spring 2025, the field area will be the UNESCO North West Highlands Geopark of Scotland.
