A continuation of GERM 101, with increased emphasis on reading of selected texts. Authentic documents and interviews with native speakers from all walks of life serve as a first-hand introduction to the German-speaking countries. An interactive learning software, as well as related Internet audio-visual materials emphasize the mastery of speaking, writing, and reading skills that are the foundation for further study. Three 50-minute meetings per week for explanation and demonstration, plus one 50-minute meeting per week for additional practice with German language assistants.

Requisite: GERM 101 or equivalent.

Students who enroll in this course will likely encounter and be expected to engage in the following intellectual skills, modes of learning, and assessment: An emphasis on instruction in languages other than English, in particular on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, oral presentations, group work, in-class quizzes or exams.
