Outdoor and Rec Athletics 0144 - Thru Hiking

Have you ever dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, or The Long Trail? Student will learn how to select gear and equipment for long distance hiking, prepare mail drops, meal plan for weeks at a time and execute a thru hike. The class will section hike the Robert Frost Trail during the semester, while planning for two different 3-day hikes, with a non-refundable lab fee of $100 due by the second week of class. The lab fee will cover transportation, equipment, food, mail drops, permits, camping fees, and map. Completion of this course, participants will be equipped with the skills necessary to successfully thru hike any trail. 5- College students will be graded pass/fail.

This class may be used for CEL-1 credit.
