This course introduces students to the scientific study of mental processes and behavior. We will explore a broad sampling of the ways Psychologists study these from different theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches. For example, we will examine the interplay between the biological, psychological, and social aspects of human behavior. We will discuss the way that psychology is interdisciplinary, with topics that link to several other fields in the natural, cognitive, and social sciences, and in the humanities and arts. Through in-class exercises and laboratory activities, you will gain first hand experience with different types of scientific methods used by Psychological Scientists. These exercises will provide you with practice in data analysis and interpretation, critical reasoning, scientific writing, and the application of psychological findings to "real-life." Each skill will ultimately help you filter the truth and fiction behind "common sense" interpretations of psychology.
Mind, Brain, and Information Writing and Research Quantitative Skills Students are expected to spend approximately 6-8 hours of preparation and work outside of class time
