This course is designed for the student who already has a practice in making sculpture or in art making with a desire to incorporate sculptural materials. Materials used will depend mostly on the work the student is already engaged in making. There will also be demonstration of use and technique in some traditional materials to help expand the students' options in construction of objects. These materials include wood, metal, plaster, and found object. Students will be expected to work independently and follow through with research relative to their specific interests. There will also be assigned readings and projects to engage students with concepts in contemporary art making, alternative practices, and worldwide cultural activities. There will be a lab fee of $60 for some materials. Students will be responsible for obtaining other material as needed throughout the semester based on their needs for their work. Students will also be required to keep a journal/sketchbook to document research, drawing, and all around thinking relative to the content of the class.
