Please read expanded course description for FULL CLASS INFO! Leadership is more than just being "in charge" and being an instructor requires more than having a specific amount of simple experience. People when put in leadership positions are not magically imbued with teaching skills that guarantee and positive learning environment. Being able to effectively lead students demands the presence of axiomatic components that puts the student on the best possible path of growth and development. Knowing what exactly those components are and learning the proper sequence of dispensing them is the precise path of development for the teacher to undergo. This class is a workshop that will delve into, analyze, and practice various methods of teaching drawing from content and rhetoric of the OPRA martial arts and kickboxing courses. Designed specifically to enhance current Instructor Assistants' (I.A.'s) quality of leadership, this course is also open to students of any level CURRENTLY enrolled in a martial arts course AT HAMPSHIRE COLLEGE, (Pre-requisite). 5-College students are also welcome under the aforementioned term. Students may use this course as direct qualification for becoming an I.A. in future semesters. All participants must come prepared with writing implements, a devoted notebook, and dressed in clothing that allows for full freedom of movement. Instructor permission is required. Instructor permission of this class is granted ONLY in-person during attendance within the add/drop period. EARLY REQUESTS FOR ENROLLMENT BY EITHER HAMPSHIRE OR 5-COLLEGE STUDENTS PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS WILL NOT BE HONORED.
