This course examines the relationship between feminist activism, theory, and politics and the prison. The course takes a two pronged approach that is historical and theoretical. We will examine the history of the prison in the United States as well as how feminist theorists and activists have understood the relationship beteen incarceration and race, gender, sexuality, ability, immigration, war, economics, as well as resistance. In/Justice Students should generally expect to spend 8 hours a week on work outside of class time. The content of this course deals with issues of Race and Power.
