Film 1 is a hands-on introduction to 16mm filmmaking with an emphasis on experimental and exploratory film techniques. Through a series of film screenings, readings, discussions, class exercises and individual student projects, students will explore 16mm non-synchronous production, basic lighting, and analog film editing techniques. We will explore the material and conceptual characteristics of film as well as its relevance in our digital age. The emphasis of this class is on the student finding a personal means of expression using the film medium. Keywords: Film, Analog, 16mm, Filmmaking, Bolex
