Topics include stereochemistry, nucleophilic substitution and elimination reactions, the chemistry of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, and ethers, and an introduction to infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Laboratory work includes synthesis, practice in the techniques of distillation, crystallization, chromatography, molecular modeling, and identifying unknown organic compounds by chemical and spectroscopic means.'
