In this course, we will enter the English language like explorers, as the poet Etel Adnan suggests. We will write poetry, short fiction, and essays. In the process, in honing our craft, we will develop writing skills that can be used across disciplines. We will experiment with language, form, and content; we will practice the all-important arts of giving and receiving feedback; we will revise and revise until we have said either what we wanted to say in the first place, or something better. We will also read short texts, composed in English, by multilingual writers such as Yiyun Li, Edwidge Danticat, le thi diem thuy, Gloria Anzaldua, Chimamanda Adichie, and Junot Díaz.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
