This course is an investigation into the art of;counting and combinatorial proof. Many;mathematical formulas can be interpreted as;counting some collection of objects with a;particular structure. This allows us to apply;simple counting arguments, and often we obtain;beautiful and concrete proofs. Topics may include;Fibonacci identities, Stirling numbers,;inclusion-exclusion, continued fractions, and;generating functions.
Prereq: MATH-232.
