This courses aims to provide an overview of the main theoretical approaches to second language acquisition with a focus on Spanish. Students will become familiar with the key concepts to understand accounts based on different processes -- innatism, cognitivism, and sociocultural -- and their implications for pedagogical practices. One of the objectives of this seminar is that students gain knowledge in research methodology. Thus, coursework will include the use of data from Spanish learner language corpora for the critical review of empirical studies as well as the design of experimental tests for language data elicitation on a topic in Spanish as a second language.
Prereq: Two courses in Spanish at the 200-level above 212.
