This dynamic and engaging course is designed to demystify the inquiry and practice of public art through individual explorations of deep listening, drawing, and painting -- and through collaborative processes of community engagement and mural making. Building upon an introduction to the social history of public art, students will gather information, synthesize their findings, and work together to vision, design, and create a public mural that is a direct reflection of this shared experience. Students will also be supported to think more broadly about meaningful ways to utilize the platform and potential of public art to effectively activate public spaces and generate lasting community impact.
Prereq: ARTST-120 or ARTST-131.
For art studio majors only for the 1st week of pre-registration. Then open to all in the 2nd week.
