Plants are arguably the most important and consequential organisms on the planet. The origin of plants over 450 million years ago profoundly altered the terrestrial landscape. The incredible array of plant lineages that exist today are united by the fundamental cellular and developmental mechanisms that enable their survival. We will explore major themes in plant biology, including structure-function relationships, evolution and adaptation, and the co-dependence of humans and plants by working with plants hands-on, using the botanic garden collections and the campus living laboratory.
Prereq: BIOL-145 or BIOL-160.; Coreq: BIOL-224L.
