Education and Child Study 341 - THE CHILD IN MODERN SOCIETY

What does it mean to be a successful child or have a successful childhood in modern society today? This interdisciplinary course will help students develop a theoretically, historically, and culturally informed perspective on childhood and child development and use this knowledge to think about and address the dilemmas that confront children and families in modern societies. Students will examine how the experience of childhood is shaped by the interplay of family, schooling, and wider culture by drawing on directed field observations and experiences. Prerequisite: 235 or permission of the instructor.
