Selected special topics which will vary from year to year; typically some subset of the following: climate physics, cosmology, general relativity, nuclear and particle physics, optics, solid state physics. Prerequisites will vary with the topics of the course. An introduction to the structure and history of the universe. Topics will include the big bang model, the cosmic microwave background radiation, inflation and the early universe, dark matter and dark energy, accelerated expansion and the possible futures of the universe, and multiverse theories. Prerequisites: PHY 210 and PHY215, or permission of the instructor.
