Topics course. The understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of human disease all increasingly rely on contributions from engineering. In this course, we will study some of the ways in which engineering is contributing to the study and clinical management of cancer. Students will gain an understanding of the molecular, cellular, and genetic basis of cancer, and use that perspective to consider ways that engineering approaches have been and can be used to study and treat cancer. We will also examine the pathways of getting a new therapeutic or technology approved for clinical use. Prerequisites: BIO 150 or BIO 152, and EGR 290; or permission of the instructor. Enrollment limit of 16 students.
Topic: Engineering and Cancer.
