Topics include the nature, causes, and consequences of genocide in Rwanda, regional dynamics, the failure of the international community to intervene, and efforts to promote justice through the UN. International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. We will also consider theories of genocide and their applicability to Rwanda, exploring comparisons with other cases such as the Armenian genocide, the Holocaust, the destruction of the Herero, and war in Liberia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
